Cost Per Wear

Using a cost per wear tracker literally changed my closet *not clickbait.

I’ve always been a data-driven person. Steps? Counted. Movies watched? Tracked. Books read? Analyzed. My closet, however, is a space that until 2024 had been virtually untracked. I had a general idea of what I was wearing because they always ended up in the laundry bin right when I needed them but I allowed myself to keep things long past their expiration date (with me) because I didn’t have the data to back anything up. I’d say, “oh I just wore that,” without proof on paper. One day I decided to try on the items under my bed to find that most didn’t fit and hadn’t probably in a while. There’s no shame in that, however, there wasn’t any reason to hold on to those salmon pink skinny jeans anymore, either.

I’ve got my cost per wear tracker (non-affiliate, non-sponsored) on my links page.

I can now quantify which items are worn by X number of days, set goals, and keep track of new vs secondhand. It’s helped me be more thoughtful in my closet and in the getting ready process, too. If I need outfit inspiration, I often start with my highest cost per wear and/or longest time since wear items.

I’ve heard of apps that people use - like Indyx - but I didn’t want to go through and take a ton of pictures of my items. A line item in a Google Sheet works just fine for me.
